Every public school in California has a School Site Council consisting of parents and community members, teachers and staff, and the school principal. Parent/community representatives are elected at the International Potluck each fall for two-year terms. The current representatives are Esmund Chia and Jorge Beltranena (2013-15) and Christine Douglas, Diana Harlick, and Liz Magnee-Schalch (nominated for 2014-16). All meetings are open to the public. Please contact Mrs. Harrison if you have any questions.

Friday Morning Gatherings
New NSM families may not be aware that each Friday morning at 8:15am, the whole school gathers in the gym for announcements and songs. Middle school students run the gatherings, and classes often perform or lead songs or poems. Family members are welcome to attend and are asked to sit or stand in the back of the gym.
Dancers wanted for the International Potluck
To showcase a dance at the International Potluck on September 26, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Come share your culture with the rest of the school!
Japanese and Indian Dances
If you would like to perform a Japanese Obon (traditional group dance) at the September 26 potluck, please email Angel Hsieh at email@example.com. Performers will need to wear a kimono or yukata.
Or if you’re interested in joining the Indian Folk Dance, email Gaya at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Help Needed: PTA Committee Positions
We still have a few PTA committee positions open. Math Night and the NSM Mini-Maker Faire are just two; in addition we have a weekly photocopying project and other opportunities. If you’re interested in learning more; please contact Holly at email@example.com for more information.
Help Needed: Morning Safety Patrol
Volunteers are needed to help with morning drop-offs. Earn volunteer hours while helping to keep our children safe in the mornings. Volunteers work from approximately 7:50 – 8:15am, putting out orange cones, escorting children and parents, and making sure that traffic keeps moving safely.
